Seminar Information
The Flow Competition, based on an initiative of Joël Claisse Architecture, the Beci Port of Brussels companies and the Urban Land Institute, was directed towards students and schools of architecture throughout Europe, and to young professional architects. The aim was to stimulate in-depth debate regarding the role and position of the Port of Brussels and how it is to develop in the future, at the heart of the city/region which has become Brussels, the capital of the European Union.
The theme, ‘A canal in Brussels, capital of Europe. An area of life and employment’, drew exciting and thought-provoking entries. Over 30 projects were received, with 23 coming before the jury. This competition for ideas was organized from 2008 to 2009 for European students and young architects, and enabled participants to propose an innovative and daring architectural project which simultaneously envisages the environmental, social, technical and economic dimensions involved.
